21. Serie verbos poderosos del español – Parte 6/7 – GUSTAR
Today you hear phrases with this particular verb because when you say you like something, that something literally is pleasing you. For example, if I say “Me gustan los autos de carrera” (I like racing cars) literally means “Racing cars are pleasing me”.
If the thing you like is singular, you have to use ” me gusta”. If it’s plural, as in the example above, you use “me gustan”.
