Vida de Pablo

In this episode we talk about Tuyo, the opening theme of the television series Narcos, which tells the story of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.

The song, commissioned specifically for the show, was written and performed by Rodrigo Amarante, a Brazilian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger. Amarante was inspired by the type of music that Escobar’s mother would have been listening to while raising her ambitious young son, and also way back in her own teenage years: a time of innocence, naïve ideals and dreams of romance.

We will see how the choice of words in the lyrics is very revealing of the worldview slowly taking shape in the mind of young Pablito, sometime in the late 1950’s, in the small village of Rionegro, near Medelllín.
